Tinnitus Assessments & Counselling
Tinnitus assessments are specialised evaluations designed to understand the nature and impact of the tinnitus you may be experiencing. As audiologists, our goal is to chart the characteristics of your tinnitus—such as its pitch, loudness, and whether it’s constant or intermittent—using a variety of diagnostic tools and techniques.
This comprehensive approach helps in identifying the underlying causes of your tinnitus and its effect on your daily life, including any associated hearing loss or psychological distress.
We tailor the assessment to your specific experience, and develop a personalised management plan that may include sound therapy, counselling, and lifestyle adjustments to help mitigate the symptoms of tinnitus.
It’s important to remember that while tinnitus is currently incurable, there are effective strategies to manage its impact.

What Is Tinnitus?
The widespread condition known as tinnitus is characterised by the ringing or noise that is perceived in the ears when there is no external sound. This disorder can produce a range of sounds, from a loud roar to a high shriek, including ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling, and even clicking. One or both ears may experience tinnitus, which can be continuous, sporadic, steady, or pulsing.
Subjective and objective tinnitus are the two basic varieties. The more prevalent type, called subjective tinnitus, is only audible to the affected person. Rarely, objective tinnitus is audible to both the affected person and others. It is frequently caused by underlying medical conditions such vascular disorders or spasms in the muscles.
Tinnitus can be caused by a wide range of factors, such as age-related hearing loss, loud noise exposure, ear infections, certain drugs, and a variety of medical disorders. While tinnitus by itself typically does not indicate a major health concern, it may be a symptom of an underlying condition that requires medical treatment.
Tinnitus can have a major negative influence on one’s quality of life by interfering with sleep, making it difficult to concentrate, and causing emotional anguish. Tinnitus has no known cure, however there are a number of therapies and management techniques that can help minimise its effects. These consist of lifestyle adjustments, counselling, sound therapy, and hearing aids, all aimed at assisting people in managing their illness and enhancing their general quality of life.
